For months, since I started D20 Digital to help small and medium businesses with better quality website and marketing services, I knew I wanted to launch a section of our site dedicated to a digital marketing blog containing original articles and topics that might be helpful for our clients and others navigating this chaotic professional landscape.
I use the word navigating here intentionally because I’ve heard from many clients about their own attempts to understand and take care of their business’ website and marketing needs.
How hard can it be? Launch a website, add some content, inform Google about your business, create a Facebook page, and you’re good to go. Right?
The reality is much more stressful as there’s an incredible number of options and an overwhelming amount of noise in the digital marketing industry.
I have spent years working with business owners and marketing directors, and each subsequent year brings more skills and responsibilities under the umbrella of “digital marketing.” Even for technology professionals, it can be a challenge to understand the nuance of it all.
Therefore, I hope the content we publish can be found as a useful resource for those who need a guiding light.
What We’ll Focus On With Our Helpful Articles
With an abundance of information available online, it’s actually quite difficult to distinguish between reliable sources and misleading or low-quality content that’s ultimately the result of marketing efforts and algorithms. The problem is being compounded with the proliferation of generative AI used for content writing.
We’ll aim to cover a wide range of topics within digital marketing:
- The Digital Marketing Industry In General: There’s no shortage of topics to cover here with the sheer amount of technology, services, and best practices we have to consider for websites in general and lead generation strategies.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO): This used to be fairly simple, but the pace of change in the industry makes SEO strategies from even from a year or two ago less viable than they once were. Effective SEO encompasses more technical skills than it has ever required in the past.
- Technical SEO: As SEO has become more complex over the years, Technical SEO has spun-off into it’s own segment of search engine optimization. This field places more emphasis on how websites are structured and developed, general performance and ease-of-use, and the types of meta data (invisible for the average website user) that help search engine algorithms better understand and rank your content.
- Website Design & Development for Average Businesses: Your website is often the first point of contact between your business and potential customers. It is a reflection and extension of your business’ authenticity, credibility, & expertise. Our emphasis will be on effective, user-friendly, engaging websites that the average business owner or webmaster would need for digital success.
- Generative AI: AI tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, or Anthropic’s Claude are arguably the fastest moving and most impactful technology in digital marketing and our society in general. Despite the capabilities of these tools, the vast majority of small and local businesses has not leveraged AI in any meaningful way.
Our Process for Writing Original & Helpful Content
As I’ve just mentioned, generative AI is extremely potent in creating content for the web to varying degrees of quality. While I firmly believe these are useful tools that can and should be used to improve workflows, I also understand that people want to read real opinions from real people with first-hand experience.
While we use many tools including AI to research and plan content strategies, my promise for this blog is to write content directly – either from myself or from other professionals in the D20 network.
We’re Just Getting Started
D20 Digital is a relatively new organization, and we’re extremely grateful that we’ve so far developed some outstanding client relationships that have kept us (myself in particular) very busy in recent months.
But we do have a vision for our own growth, and what D20 might look like over the next five years. Suffice it to say that no matter what direction we move towards, our underlying principals will be our main guideposts. That means working diligently to deliver quality, practicing honesty and authenticity in our professional relationships, and ultimately looking to empower small to medium businesses and soloprenuers to more effectively build and manage their web-based digital marketing strategies.
Stay tuned!
With gratitude,
– Alex
